All About Me
Hi! My name is Christopher Davis and I am from Wilmington Delaware. Currently I go to Delaware College of Art and Design and is working my way into getting an Associates in Fine Arts for Animation. I've been drawing for a very long time, ever since I was 7 years old. Being that I've always had a drawing utensil in my hand, I drew everything I saw and found ways to improve my drawings by observing life and implanting personality into the things I've created. My favorite medium to work with is pen and ink and sometimes color. Although I haven't really been using wet mediums like paint too often I have grown to love that as well. Gradually going from drawing people and things (such as cars and trees) I worked my way into making art such as Graffiti (of course only on paper) and later developed a style close to Japanese anime/manga style. My primary goal is to create a style that I like without copying or imitator anime/manga style. This goal is strengthened by my artistic role models: American Illustrator/Comic Artist Aaron McGruder (creator of "The Boondocks") and Canadian Comic Artist Brian O'Mailey (creator of "Scott Pilgrim").
At first, in the beginning of High School at 15, I studied Computer Networking and Administration but to be honest I still had a passion for art that had not been developed yet. I knew nothing of the topic except that I wanted to create it. I had no idea that there were so many rules, histories, and so much rethinking gone into months in advance before the actual project. Later on, after moving to New Jersey when I was 17, I was able to study Graphic Design and was able to study another form of Art I had no idea was so important to society and life. "Fonts are everywhere!" my teacher said to me "How can you say they aren't important to everyday life when every where you look there is type?"
So far, I have learned a lot and experienced a lot of things that virtually strengthens my way of thinking as an artist, broadening my mind with endless possibilities. I have pride in the fact that now when I go to galleries and museums I can read paintings like a picture book and automatically know what the artists were thinking and understand, from the artist's point of view, what was going through their minds. This was my goal when I first became an artist and I have decided to keep going.
